It might be a cliche but Miss USA had a message to the world's terrorists during Miss Universe 2015 pageant on Sunday, Jan. 25 — just focus on hope, love, and peace!
In a much retweeted moment during the always-controversial interview section of the pageant, Miss USA Nia Sanchez was asked what her message would be to the terrorists.
And channeling that Miss Congeniality scene where all pageant contestants ask for world peace, Sanchez's response was pretty much textbook.
"I know as Miss USA I can always spread a message of hope and love and peace, and I would do my very best to spread that message to them and everyone else in the world," she said.
Her response created an instant Twitter storm.
"I feel like I'm watching the trailer for Miss Congeniality 3," one Twitter user wrote. "Miss USA said she would try to spread love and hope to terrorists. Yes, if only we would've tried offering love and peace to ISIS," blasted another while many agreed: "#MissUniverse #MissUSA's answer was a little too ambitious! 'Hope and love and peace,' beautiful words but can they tackle terrorism? No!"
Sanchez was the first runner-up in the competition to Colombia’s Paulina Vega, who took the crown this year at the official ceremony in Miami.
Many viewers also took to Twitter to lament the departure of Miss Jamaica, who came fourth runner-up (a decision audibly booed by ceremony-watchers), who many thought had been robbed of the title.
