If you grew up in the ‘90s, chances are you’re familiar with the work of legendary cartoon voice actress Christine Cavanaugh. The voice behind Babe the pig, Chuckie from The Rugrats, Dexter from Dexter’s Laboratory, and Gosalyn Waddlemeyer-Mallard on Darkwing Duck passed away on Dec. 22 at the age of 51.
The cause of Cavanaugh’s death has not been released, but her obituary was printed online via the Los Angeles Times on Tuesday, Dec. 30.
“She was able to do incredible and amazing things with her voice and bring lots of smiles and many laughs to people who are now young adults,” the clip reads.
Cavanaugh, who divorced husband Kevin James Cavanaugh in 1985, retired from her vocal career in 2001 to be closer to her family. She had no children, but was the godmother to the daughter of a childhood friend, according to the obituary.
“Her imagination, humor, and intelligence were evident to anyone who had the pleasure of meeting her,” the obituary reads. “Many know of her from the roles she played, but in each role there was a part of her showing through that the ones who truly knew her could see. The childlike awe of the world, humor to deal with the unpleasantness of reality, strength to deal with the challenges we all face, and intelligence to know when to act or accept what fate had allowed.”
