Cream bassist-singer Jack Bruce has died at the age of 71. The news of his passing was posted on his official Facebook page on Saturday, Oct. 25.

"It is with great sadness that we, Jack’s family, announce the passing of our beloved Jack: husband, father, granddad, and all round legend," Bruce's family wrote. "The world of music will be a poorer place without him, but he lives on in his music and forever in our hearts."

The Scottish musician's publicist added to Rolling Stone that "he died today at his home in Suffolk surrounded by his family." No other information has been provided, but The Guardian has reported that Bruce suffered from liver disease.

Bruce was one-third of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band with guitarist Eric Clapton and drummer Ginger Baker. Cream originated in the late '60s and is best known for blues rock hits like "I Feel Free," "Sunshine of Your Love" and "White Room."

After Cream split in 1968, Bruce went on to start a solo career that spanned many years. He released Songs for a Tailor in 1969 and formed the band West, Bruce & Laing in 1972. After the band split in 1978, he created another with drummer Simon Phillips and keyboardist Tony Hymas in 1977.

Bruce reunited once more with Clapton and Baker at their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in 1993. He last released the album Silver Rails this past March, his first in over a decade.

Bruce was previously married to Janet Godrey, with whom he shares two children.
