Jada Pinkett Smith Gets Real About Will Smith Marriage: “I’m Not His Watcher”

Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith
Jada Pinkett Smith gave a very candid interview to Howard Stern about her buzzed-about marriage to Will Smith: "I'm not his watcher," she noted, "He's a grown man" -- get the details.

Straight from the source herself. Jada Pinkett Smith sat down with SiriusXM host Howard Stern on Wednesday, June 3, to discuss buzzed-about topics such as her marriage to Will Smith and how they parent kids Jaden and Willow.

The Gotham actress, 43, confessed that she got married "too young" at the age of 25 in 1997. "Heck yeah! No, don't do it," she said of what she tells her kids of marrying at a certain age. "It did work out, but let me tell you: It worked out in a way that thank God I had a husband who's a gangster partner. Taking that road from 25 to 44."

Pinkett Smith likened her marriage to a journey. "We have traveled and you've gotta be strong. It takes work — you know that!" she said to Stern. "Here's the deal, Howard. You've gotta trust who you're with. And at the end of the day, right, I'm not here to be anybody's watcher. I'm not his watcher. He's a grown man."

The actress elaborated on the fundamentals of their relationship. "Here's what I trust: The man that Will is… is a man of integrity. He's got all the freedom in the world," she dished. "As long as Will can look himself the mirror and be okay? I'm good."

She joked that their fame would uncover any alleged affair. "I'm gonna know anyway," she continued, saying not all Hollywood couples were on the same page. "It can sometimes [suck] if you're not clear about where your man is."

At the end of the day, the mother of two said she was assured by one solid fact. "When you can look in your man's eyes and know that he's holding you down and that he loves you," she dished. "Here's what's real: I'm not the kind of woman that believes a man is not going to be attracted to another woman."

The Men in Black actor, 46, was the subject of cheating rumors in November 2013 after he engaged in a frisky photo booth session with his Focus costar Margot Robbie. The Wolf of Wall Street actress vehemently denied the rumors as "ridiculous," but Pinkett Smith indirectly addressed the debacle on Wednesday.

"Just because a man is attracted to another woman does not mean that he does not love you," she noted candidly. "And it doesn't mean that he's going to act on it." She very rationally added: "If your man isn't going to see another woman's beauty, how the heck is he going to see yours?"

On the flip side, Pinkett Smith's amazing body and stunning features also do not go unnoticed. "It's so funny when your sons get to those teen years," she said of being stepmom to Trey, 22, and mom to Jaden, 16. "And they're like 'Hey ma, I've got friends coming over…. and my friend is really feeling you.'" She joked that her eldest still asks her to "'tone it down'" with the risqué outfits around their Calabasas, Calif., home. "He's such a sweetheart. I'm like, 'I get it babe.'"

Like Pinkett Smith, her superstar husband was equally honest while speaking to Us Weekly this past February about his high-profile marriage. "Jada and I have struggled with that a little bit. The problem is one person is in work mode while the other person is in chill mode. Then it's like you're both trying to come up," he shared. "And you'll realize that you're either really committed to having a relationship, or you're really committed to coming up. At some point one or the other is going to have to suffer."
