Jon Stewart Slams Donald Trump Defenders as “Ridiculous,” “Disingenuous”

Jon Stewart called out Donald Trumps' media defenders on his show Thursday, July 2.

Callin’ it like he sees it. After a few weeks of relative silence, Jon Stewart didn’t hold back with his comments on Thursday, July 2, about Donald Trump’s headline-making speech in June. The talk show host, who is set to give up his Daily Show seat later this year, kicked off the rant with a heartfelt thank you to the Republican presidential candidate.

“I want to talk about one person who’s been there for me, really, throughout the whole run [of the show],” he deadpanned. “But especially toward the end of this run. His name is Donald.”

Stewart, 52, then launched into an entire dissection of Trump’s foot-in-mouth moment late last month.

“Donald recently glided back into my life on his solid gold up-and-down people mover, cranked up the unauthorized Neil Young, opened up his crazy hole, and promised me I would never be without material again,” he said.

During the announcement of his plans to run for presidency, The Apprentice host brought up the issue of immigration policy, claiming that “the U.S. has become a dumping ground for everybody else’s problems.”

“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. ….They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us,” he said. “They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.”

Stewart pointed out that the problem wasn’t only that Trump had made these comments, but that certain members of the media were trying to cover for his racist remarks.

“It’s hard to get mad at Donald Trump for saying stupid things, in the same way you don’t get mad at a monkey when it throws poop at you in the zoo. It’s a monkey. It’s what they do,” he explained.

“What does get me angry is the ridiculous, disingenuous defending of the poop-throwing monkey,” he continued, referencing a montage of news anchors trying to justify Trump’s comments.

Trump, for his part, has refused to apologize for his words, telling Us Weekly that “there is nothing to apologize for.”

Many celebrities and companies have expressed their sentiments otherwise. Since the 69-year-old’s speech, NBC, Univision, Macy’s, and other franchises have pulled their support from Trump.

And earlier on Thursday, actress America Ferrera penned a note to the outspoken politician on HuffPost Latino Voices.

“Dear Donald,” she began. “You’ve said some pretty offensive things about Latino immigrants recently, and I think they’re worth addressing. Because, you know, this is the United States of America, where I have the right to speak up even if I’m not a billionaire. Isn’t that awesome?”
