It’s probably better off this way. Joni Mitchell made her sentiments about Taylor Swift clear this weekend when she told The Sunday Times that the pop star will not be playing her in any movie.

In 2012, Swift, 24, was reportedly in talks to play the legendary folk artist in the film adaptation of the biography Girls Like Us, which tells the stories of legends Carole King, Carly Simon, and Mitchell.

“I squelched that,” Mitchell, 71, said of the biopic. “I said to the producer, ‘All you’ve got is a girl with high cheekbones.’ It’s just a lot of gossip, you don’t have the great scenes.”

Mitchell’s complaints, however, were largely about the subject matter written by Sheila Weller in the biography. “There’s a lot of nonsense about me in books,” she said. “Assumptions, assumptions, assumptions.”

Swift, meanwhile, has remained an avid fan of Mitchell, despite losing the role. The “Blank Space” singer even revealed to Rolling Stone recently that the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer makes her rather emotional. “When I first started drinking — when I was like 21 — I used to cry about Joni Mitchell all the time after a few glasses of wine,” she dished. “All my friends would know, once I started crying about Joni Mitchell, it was time for me to go to bed.”

In another interview with New York Magazine, Swift quoted the legend. “I think it was Joni Mitchell who said that, ‘Songs are what you think of on the drive home,'” she mused. “You know, the Great Afterthought.” The 1989 hitmaker told Nick Lachey recently that the album she played “until it wore out” was Mitchell’s fourth studio record from 1971, Blue.

Mitchell’s comments overlapped at the same time with those from another legendary singing sensation, Bette Midler, who blasted current pop star Ariana Grande for using sex appeal to stay relevant.
