Babies and mermaids and Sweetings, oh my! Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting opened up to Ellen DeGeneres on Friday, Sept. 19, about her marriage to Ryan Sweeting and whether they're ready to expand their family.

"We both want kids," the Big Bang Theory star, 28, said, adding that they "can't wait." However, the actress and tennis pro — who wed this past New Year's Eve — have their hands full at the moment with another rescue dog.

"Got a real small one, a little rescue. Her name is Ruby," Cuoco said of the newest addition to her family. "We do want to have kids, but I’m a little… I lost this dog in the backyard so many times that I’m afraid I need to practice on not losing her so I don’t actually lose my child."

The star added that despite speculation, she is "not pregnant," to which DeGeneres retorted, "not pregnant and happy. Life is sweeting."

During their sit-down, Cuoco also told the host about a surprise birthday party she threw for her husband, 27, in July. "If I wasn’t an actor, I would be a party planner in another life," Cuoco said. "I had a lot of help, but I hired synchronized swimmers to dance to our favorite song, which is One Direction's ['What Makes You Beautiful']."

"It was my version of strippers," she quipped. "And that was the closest thing I was gonna do. That was the strippers. They were in the water and they were all [synchronized]."

The swimmers, alone, weren't Cuoco's only surprise for the birthday boy. "I always want like special things that people are going to remember," she explained. So what was a girl to do?

"I said, 'I want a mermaid.' Literally," she recalled. "So we found this woman who does this for a living… She just hung out in the pool. What was so funny was legally she had to be out of the pool once an hour. So the security would come and lift her up and take her to my room for 10 minutes [every] hour and she would just sit in there because she didn't have any legs… We would feed her and she would come back out."

Cuoco joked, "We were trying to do the mermaid thing by like, throwing fish at her."

DeGeneres replied, "Yeah. You got ripped off… like crazy."
