Kelly Clarkson Covers Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball,” Wows Audience

Sing it, Kelly! Kelly Clarkson surprised and wowed her fans during a show in Noblesville, Ind., on Thursday, July 30, when she belted out her rendition of Miley Cyrus’ hit “Wrecking Ball.”

“I actually love this song,” she said by way of introducing her performance. “And this is by Miley Cyrus, and this is called ‘Wrecking Ball.’” The crowd cheered.

Clarkson, 33, made the ballad her own by stripping it down and making it an acoustic performance.

The American Idol alum has been known to put her own spin on other hits during her concerts as well, including Rihanna’s “Stay,” Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space,” and Nick Jonas’ “Jealous.”

But it’s not just her musical prowess that has kept Clarkson in the spotlight. Earlier this year, the singer made headlines when she stood up for herself after renowned criticizer (and so-called Most Hated Woman in Britain) Katie Hopkins slammed her on Twitter.

“Jesus, what happened to Kelly Clarkson? Did she eat all of her backing singers?” Hopkins tweeted following Clarkson’s appearance on The Graham Norton Show. “Happily I have a wide-screen. #grahamnorton.”

Clarkson responded equally publicly in a classy tweet.

“I’m awesome! It doesn’t bother me,” she wrote. “It’s a free world. Say what you will. I’ve just never cared what people think. It’s more if I’m happy and confident and feeling good, that’s always been my thing. And more so now, since having a family — I don’t seek out any other acceptance.”
