Note to celebs: Rape jokes are never, ever a good idea. LeAnn Rimes put her foot into it once more during a recent appearance with husband Eddie Cibrian on Joan Rivers' web series In Bed With Joan. In the freewheeling chat, which premiered online earlier this week, the reality TV couple gabbed with the comedienne over cocktails and gamely fielded Rivers' raunchy questions. Early on in the convo, the country singer joked that her cocktail "might be roofied."
A bit later, Rivers, 81, asked the country singer, 32, about losing her virginity. "I was in Monte Carlo and I was 15?" the twice-married "How Do I Live?" singer. "I know, it's kind of a bulls— story. I was 16. There you go."
"Was it nice? Was it bad? Was he nice?" Rivers pressed on.
"Well, he was my boyfriend for like three and a half years," Rimes explained. "He was fine. I think I raped him. I think that's how it happened."
Not surprisingly, the backlash was immediate on Twitter. "I thought @leannrimes was just cheap entertainment but her joke about rape proved she's ignorant trash," one person tweeted. "She deserves everything she gets."
"It's not intelligent and VERY offensive to joke about rape @leannrimes," said another.
Rimes has yet to directly address the comments.
