Melissa Rivers speaks out for first time since mom Joan Rivers' funeral

Melissa Rivers is feeling profoundly grateful. The Fashion Police producer broke her silence for the first time since her late mother Joan Rivers' funeral on Wednesday, Sept. 17, in a WhoSay post, thanking fans for their overwhelming love and support.

"As my son Cooper and I mourn the loss of my mother, we want to thank everyone for the beautiful cards and flowers conveying heartfelt messages and condolences, which continue to arrive from around the world and through social media. My mother would have been overwhelmed by the scope and depth of the love that people have expressed for her. It is certainly helping to lift our spirits during this time.

We are forever grateful for your kindness and support in continuing to honor my mother’s legacy, and for remembering the joy and laughter that she brought to so many," Melissa wrote.

As previously reported, the late comedienne was rushed to the hospital on Aug. 28 after going into cardiac arrest during an unplanned biopsy on her vocal cords. After being put into an induced coma for almost a week, Rivers died on Sept. 4 at the age of 81. (On Tuesday, Sept. 16 CNN reported Rivers' personal doctor performed a biopsy on the star without her consent.)

The Fashion Police host was laid to rest and celebrated by celebrities and loved ones in New York City on Sunday, Sept. 7. At the funeral, Melissa read a hilarious note to her late mom, in which she joked about living with her and concluded that she was "grateful for every minute Cooper and I have with you."
