She’s coming down to Earth!
After spending her entire existence in high heels, Barbie will soon have the option of rocking flat feet, which means she’ll also be getting a whole new line of flat shoes to choose from, Mattel announced on Thursday, June 4.
The iconic, hourglass-shaped doll, who made her debut in March 1959, has always been known for her impeccable sense of style. (Bob Mackie, Versace, Burberry, Kate Spade, and Louis Vuitton, to name just a few, have designed threads for the blonde stunner.) But her permanently pointed toes have forced her to stick to heels, sandals, and boots.
But now, thanks to her newly designed “adjustable ankles,” Barbie can slip into some comfy shoes, including (per the first photos, shared via Barbie’s Instagram) sling-back sandals and Mary Janes. All three pics (shown above) are hashtagged #Barbie and #BeSuper, suggesting that a girl can take over the world no matter what kind of shoes she’s wearing.
