Throwback Saturday: Mother-and-daughter edition!
Dakota Johnson hosted Saturday Night Live on Saturday, Feb. 28, and during her opening monologue, she pointed out that her mother, Melanie Griffith, who was seated in the audience, had stood in the exact same place in 1988.
Which had Us itching to recall Griffith’s 26-year-old appearance on the NBC comedy staple, when she was 31 at the time.
For the near-Christmastime episode, the Working Girl star, who had appeared nervous during her opening speech, stood in front of a decked-out tree in a wonderfully ’80s ensemble: a satin blouse, leather pants, and almond-toe heels. Her choppy blonde tresses were styled to appear tousled.
Just like her mom, Johnson, 25, took the stage sounding just a bit jittery. And yet, she also glowed, donning a similarly modest ensemble—a high-necked, short-sleeved LBD and patent heels. Her chocolate locks, dyed to portray Anastasia Steele in Fifty Shades of Grey, were curled into casual waves.
In her monologue, Johnson also noted that her father, Don Johnson, who was also in the audience at her SNL debut, proposed to Griffith the night her mom hosted the long-running series. “And exactly nine months later I was born… So I must’ve been conceived that night after the show, or even during the show. Isn’t that right you guys?” she quipped.
