It seems like just yesterday that Chris Soules was getting down on one knee to propose to Whitney Bischoff on the season 19 Bachelor finale. Alas, two months have passed since that episode aired in March, and Prince Farming’s fairy-tale ending is no more. As previously reported, the reality TV couple announced their split in a joint statement to Us Weekly on Thursday, May 28, saying they had “mutually and amicably” ended their engagement.
The news comes just three weeks after fertility nurse Bischoff, 29, reflected fondly on Soules’ proposal in a #tbt Instagram photo from the finale. “Can’t believe this was almost six months ago,” she captioned the shot of her now-ex-fiance, 33, offering her a ring.
As seen in the flashback video above, Soules popped the question in a barn on his farm in Arlington, Iowa, after saying goodbye to runner-up Becca Tilley.
“From the moment that I met you, and the moment that you got out of the limo, I can still remember the time we spent together that evening,” he told Bischoff. “And probably one of the best days of my life was when we got to crash a wedding together.”
That experience was one of many that made him think they were “perfect” for each other, but the clincher was when she met his family.
“Being able to have you here today, and being able to have you here in Iowa and meeting my family and seeing how they reacted to you…there’s so many things about you that I’m so excited about,” he gushed. “It’s not work for us, it’s natural…it feels so right and it feels so perfect.”
Then, dropping to one knee and pulling out a diamond engagement ring designed by Neil Lane, he continued: “And that’s what I want for the rest of my life. I love you. Everything about this moment feels right. I want the world to know that I love you. Will you marry me?”
