Hayden Panettiere reveals she was not asked to appear in the Heroes reboot: "It was a shock to me," she says in a new interview.

Don't expect to see Claire Bennet the cheerleader return to NBC's Heroes. Hayden Panettiere reveals in a new interview with Cosmopolitan.com that she was not asked to join the show's recently announced miniseries, Heroes: Reborn, in 2015.

"It was a shock to me," the Nashville star says, adding that she found out about the reboot through the grapevine. "In fact, I believe I became privy to that through my cousin. She sent me a text message and told me about it."

Panettiere, who played a teen cheerleader with the gift of cell rejuvenation on the original series, was a standout castmember on the show from September 2006 to February 2010. "I mean, we had nothing, nothing to do with it," she says of the reboot. "It will definitely be interesting to see how they reinvent that."

When asked to speculate over what Claire has been up to, Panettiere responds with a simple "Who knows?" She explains, "It's a little bit of an interesting feeling because you go, 'That was our show, our home, our family,' something that we had a major part in creating," adding that it would hurt if the reboot were to bring back its original characters.

"I mean, I hope that they don't have somebody else playing our characters," she quips, adding, "that would be a little dagger in the heart. But, you never know. I wish them success in it, for sure."

For Panettiere, part of moving on and growing up since her days on Heroes has been learning to embrace herself. "I think it’s important to stop trying to run away from yourself and change everything," she says. "Like, I have curly hair and I want to flat iron it all the time — and sometimes as I've gotten older I've just gone, 'You know what? I have to stop trying to change what I have; I have to stop trying to change my body type and stop trying to change the texture of my hair. I've got to embrace it.' I want to look at myself and go, 'I've got to work with what I've got. It's very empowering."

These days, Panettiere has continued her success with another popular TV show, starring on ABC's Emmy-nominated musical drama, Nashville, as multifaceted country pop star Juliette Barnes. She's also been busy planning her wedding to fiance, world heavyweight champ Wladimir Klitschko.
