Inherent Vice First Trailer: Reese Witherspoon, Joaquin Phoenix Reunite in Paul Thomas Anderson’s Latest

It’s here! After months of anticipation, Paul Thomas Anderson is back with the first trailer for his upcoming feature film Inherent Vice

The award-winning director, writer, and producer, who was behind such films as Boogie Nights, There Will Be Blood, and The Master, returned to his post to adapt Thomas Pynchon‘s critically acclaimed 2009 novel Inherent Vice, and stage a reunion between Walk the Line stars Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon

The Oscar-nominated Anderson, 44, first spoke about his interest in the book for the big screen in 2010, and this week, the movie’s first trailer made its debut, with Phoenix and Witherspoon back on film together.

The clip opens with shots of a beach town and audio of a woman’s voice, saying, “If it’s a quiet night out at the beach, and your ex-old lady suddenly out of nowhere shows up with a story about her current billionaire land-developer boyfriend, and his wife, and her boyfriend, and a plot to kidnap the billionaire and throw him in a looney bin, maybe you should just look the other way.”
