What the twerk! Miley Cyrus will return to the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, Aug. 24, following her headline-yanking 2013 performance.
"BREAKING: Miley will attend the VMAs Sunday night," a tweet from Cyrus' Official Miley Team account read. MTV's official handle promptly retweeted the news on Wednesday, Aug. 20. The singer's smash hit, "Wrecking Ball," is up for Video of the Year.
Unlike last year, Cyrus, 21, will not be performing at the star-studded awards show. Fans, critics, and stars alike were shocked, to say the least, after the singer gyrated onstage with a giant foam finger and twerked up on Robin Thicke during their memorable medley duet last August.
As previously reported by Us Weekly in January, Thicke was upset with Cyrus for "going too far" during the show. "He thinks she hijacked the performance," an insider told Us.
The Bangerz singer, from her end, resented Thicke for not defending her after the show. "Miley thinks Robin threw her under the bus," another source told Us.
This year's performers will include Beyonce (who is nominated in eight categories), Taylor Swift (who released her new single, "Shake It Off," this past week), Iggy Azalea, and more. The 2014 MTV VMAs will air Sunday, Aug. 24.
