Dreaming a little dream… that she’ll join their team! On the final night of blind auditions on The Voice on Monday, Oct. 5, an NYC native named Amy Vachal delivered a gorgeous, ethereal version of the beloved pop standard, “Dream a Little Dream of Me,” causing all four judges Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani, Adam Levine, and Pharrell Williams to freak out.
Vachal, 26, strumming her guitar, launched into a gorgeous rendition of the 1931 tune that has since been performed by legendary singers like Ozzie Nelson, Ernie Birchill, Ella Fitzgerald, Bing Crosby, Nat King Cole, Doris Day, Anita Harris, Robbie Williams, and many more.
The first one to turn his chair was Shelton, 39, and instinctively, Stefani and Williams immediately turned their chairs. “Please, Lord!” Shelton said as Vachal continued to sing. “Please pick me!”
Like Shelton, 46-year-old Stefani looked entranced. The only judge not to turn his chair was Levine, 36, who stared off into space with a reflective nod as she delivered the tune. His reason for why he didn’t turn his chair was later explained.
“My team is full, otherwise I would’ve turned around first,” Levine noted. “Not only am I sad that I didn’t turn around for you, but you could win this whole thing.”
“Thank you for bringing what you did to this show,” Levine’s biggest competitor, Shelton, noted, as his buddy bemoaned the “brokenness” of his button. “I’m so impressed. Please pick me,” the country superstar said, noting Vachal’s guitar skills.
